-Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison was born February 11, 1847, and is considered to be the greatest inventor the world has ever known. Both an American inventor and entrepreneur, he has developed devices that have greatly influenced life around the world. Edison's phonograph created todays music industry, his motion picture camera created our incredible film industry, and the long-lasting practical electric light bulb made it possible for all industries to flourish even when light wasn't available.
Edison was a prolific inventor, who held 1,093 US patents in his name, as well as many patents in the UK, France, and Germany.
Despite losing much of his hearing when he was a child, Thomas A. Edison invented the"phonogram”in 1877 to record sounds and play them back. After he designed it, he asked his employee John Kruesi to make the machine from his sketch. When Kruesi asked what it was for, Edison told
him,and Kruesi thought the idea absurd. When it was finished, Edison put tin foil on a cylinder, which would record the movements of the diaphragm with a stylus. He shouted into the mouthpiece, "Mary had a little lamb," and when he adjusted it for playback, the machine reproduced the sound perfectly, startling both Edison and his craftsman.
In 1878,Edison traveled to Washington to demonstrate his machine for President Rutherford B. Hayes
