‘Amazing’ Stan Lee Signed 1975 Marvel’s Very First Film Contract. “With respect to the acquisition by the purchaser of live action feature motion picture, related rights in and to that certain literary property entitled Spider-Man.”

$9,500.00

“The best way to rule the universe is to create it.” -Stan Lee

Stan Lee revolutionized his industry changing the world of comics, when he created the mythic superheroe figures that are still inspiring new generations.

Stan Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber on December 28, 1922, in New York City to Romanian immigrants Celia and Jack Lieber. A childhood during the Great Depression, Lee and younger brother, watched his parents struggle to make ends meet for the family.

In 1939 Lee started as an comics editor while also serving domestically in the Army during World War II, as a writer and illustrator.

After the war he struggled in the comics business for years until 1961 when he co-created his first mega hit, with Jack Kirby, The Fantastic Four.

Following the success of the Fantastic Four, came characters like the Hulk, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, and the X-Men but it was Spider-Man that really connected with huge audiences.

Marvel Comics became a highly popular franchise, and Stan Lee was promoted to editorial director and publisher in 1972. Prior Stan Lee moving to the West Coast in 1981 to head up Marvel’s film venture, Spiderman started to get traction through television and film in the mid-1970s as memorialized by this ‘Amazing’ three-page contract dated January 1, 1975.  An incredible piece of Marvel history that speaks to the inspirational legacy of Stan Lee.

The contract is a deal put together by Stan Lee, for a feature motion picture film and related rights to certain literary properties entitled “Spider-Man”. This incredible contract is signed at the conclusion by Stan Lee and the then President of Marvel, Albert Landau, each in their own hand.

This is possibly the earliest agreement ever made available anywhere, concerning a Spider-Man film, it’s over 45 years old and even pre-dates the release of the TV Spider-Man series from 1977.

We’ve also included a copy photo of Stan Lee and Spider-Man from the era and below we’ve included one of Stanley’s most memorable quotes;

“The best way to rule the universe is to create it.” -Stan Lee
