“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.”
Warren Buffett(born August 30, 1930), like many young entrepreneurs, showed early signs of his drive for success. When he was just 11 years old he purchased his first stock. Some of these traits may have been passed down through the experiences he had working in his family’s grocery store in Omaha. As a teenager, he took odd jobs, washing cars and delivering newspapers, and even saving money to purchase a fleet of pinball machines that he placed in local businesses. But it was his early interest in his fathers small brokerage that caused him to spend his days watching and listening to other investors and would ultimately set his course to one day become the worlds wealthiest man.
Warren Buffett’s success in investing is that of legend. Referred to as the "Oracle of Omaha", this Harvard Business School reject, Columbia Business School graduate, is easily the most successful investor in history. In 2008 Warren Buffett was listed FORBES Magazine’s richest man in America. Though today he is now listed as the third richest man in America he has most notably been also listed by Forbes as the second highest giver, just behind Bill Gates, with $30.8 Billion pledged.
We’ve included a copy photo of the 2013 Forbes 400 issue, in which Warren Buffett graces it’s cover. This was a year where he was actually America’s second richest, behind Bill Gates, but was the year’s biggest dollar gainer, having added $12.5 billion to his portfolio.
Next to the photo we’ve included this incredible letter, dated Nov 21, 1977, that provides a rare insight into the life of Warren Buffett as he receives a business pitch to buy a Florida publication. These series of hand written letters are also included with the accompanying portfolio. Buffett’s typed response that is featured here explains he is juggling too much right now to get involved in another venture. An incredible find from the worlds greatest investor during the dawn of his historical career.
Below both the photo and document, and centered on the page, we’ve included a quote from Warren Buffett that speaks to both why he is successful and to the content of the document,
“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.” -Warren Buffett
