This is an incredible, First Edition, two volume set, copy number 124, and Limited Edition of 327 copies, hand signed by “The Father of the Motion Picture” Thomas A. Edison and the author of the book, Terry Ramsaye.
Published by Simon and Schuster, 1926, Bound in Half leather and decorated Japanese paper over boards and professionally re-backed, both volumes are extensively illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Volume 1 is signed by Thomas Edison and the author, with portrait of Edison under tissue cover, 400 pages. Volume 2 has an opening portrait of Charlie Chaplin under tissue cover and rests at 467 pages. Some toning around the perimeter of the pages. Overall both books are beautiful and in very good condition.
This is the incredible early history of the motion picture written by film journalist, historian and editor of the Motion Picture Herald, Terry Ramsaye. Ramsaye devotes much of his history to Thomas Edison, specifically Edison's "kinetograph" camera and his "Black Maria", the rotating structure Edison had built in West Orange, New Jersey, widely considered by many to be the first commercial motion picture studio (the building was designed to rotate so that it could be constantly aligned with the the sun).
This inspiring piece history is a beautiful addition to any entrepreneur’s private library.
